Diamond Segment Laser Welding & Inspection Automation Line Diamond Segment Laser Welding & Inspection Automation Line
Line Overview
An integrated automation line that aligns and tack-welds diamond segments onto the shank (circular tool body), performs main welding with a fiber laser, inspects the weld strength by torque, and then connects transfer and final grinding of the finished shank. A central 6-axis collaborative robot handles the workpiece between each process to achieve unmanned continuous production.
Overall Process Flow
▲ Alignment / Tack-welding → Laser main welding → Torque inspection → Transfer / Final grinding (handled by a central 6-axis collaborative robot)
Process Details
Diamond Segment Alignment & Tack Welding
Diamond segments are aligned in the correct positions around the outer edge of the shank disc, and tack welding is performed in preparation for the subsequent main welding. Alignment precision is a critical upstream step that determines the final tool quality.
Fiber Laser Main Welding
The tack-welded segments and shank are firmly joined by fiber laser main welding. Localized heat input minimizes distortion, and a uniform weld bead ensures joint strength.
Weld Strength Torque Inspection
Torsion (torque) is applied to the welded segments to test joint strength and judge pass/fail. Full or sample inspection guarantees line quality in real time.
Transfer & Final Grinding
Shanks that pass inspection are transferred to the next process, and the finished parts are completed by final grinding. The detailed structure of the final grinding process can be found on a separate automation page.
