NP Tip Grinding Automation Automation of NP tip Polishing

Content

  • Process summary: Tip vibratory bowl feeder → alignment conveyor → servo Cartesian robot pick-up → 2-axis spindle grinding → finished-part discharge & collection
  • Key configuration: Vibratory bowl feeder + servo Cartesian robot + 2-axis precision spindle + transfer trays + automatic discharge unit
  • Benefits: fully unmanned NP tip grinding process / 2× productivity with dual-axis simultaneous grinding / no jig changeover required

Process Overview

✔ Bowl feeder supply → alignment conveyor → servo Cartesian robot pick-up → 2-axis spindle grinding → finished-part discharge — the entire process is fully automated
✔ Dual-axis simultaneous grinding delivers 2× throughput per unit time — a major productivity gain over a single-axis setup
✔ Automatically handles various NP tip shapes without jig changeover — zero setup time

Key Components

Vibratory Bowl Feeder + Alignment Conveyor
A stainless-steel circular bowl feeder automatically feeds NP tips along a spiral track by vibration. The connected alignment conveyor orients the tips consistently before transferring them to the next process.
Feeding / Alignment
Servo Cartesian Robot (XYZ Gantry)
An aluminum-profile X/Y/Z-axis gantry structure with servo-driven linear guides. A compact gripper precisely picks up tips and transfers them at high speed to the 1st/2nd transfer trays and the spindle jig.
Transfer / Handling
2-Axis Precision Spindle Grinding Unit
Two yellow high-speed spindle motors arranged side by side grind two NP tips simultaneously. Diamond grinding wheels contact the tip surface while a fine coolant spray (blue flexible nozzle) controls heat.
Grinding / Machining
Transfer Trays (1st / 2nd)
Black anodized aluminum trays travel left and right on linear rails. The 1st tray holds tips awaiting grinding and the 2nd tray holds finished tips; both circulate automatically in sync with the robot.
Transfer / Buffer
Finished-Part Discharge Unit
Ground NP tips are automatically stacked onto the black discharge tray. The robot picks up finished parts and discharges them into a transparent collection bin; the bin is replaced batch by batch to allow continuous operation.
Discharge / Collection
Aluminum-Profile Frame Cell
The entire process is integrated within an aluminum-profile open-frame cell. The internal structure can be checked visually from the outside, and modular expansion and layout changes are easy.
